NaNO3 Sodium Nitrate Used As A Fast-Acting Fertiliser For Acidic Soils
Sodium nitrate is a type of inorganic salt with the chemical formula NaNO3, and it is a white solid powder. The world's largest sodium nitrate mine is located in the Atacama Desert of Chile. Sodium nitrate has oxidizing properties and can react with lead when heated to produce sodium nitrite and lead oxide. At room temperature, hydriodic acid is oxidized to elemental iodine and forms nitric oxide. When hydrogen ions are introduced into sodium nitrate solution, it exhibits the characteristics of nitric acid. Sodium nitrate is one of the components of pickling salt.
Sodium nitrate is a colorless, transparent or white, slightly yellowish rhombic crystal. It has a bitter and salty taste and is highly soluble in water and liquid ammonia, slightly soluble in glycerol and ethanol. It is deliquescent, especially when it contains a very small amount of sodium chloride impurities, the deliquescent property of sodium nitrate increases significantly. When dissolved in water, the solution temperature drops and the solution becomes neutral. When heated, sodium nitrate easily decomposes into sodium nitrite and oxygen.
