1. P-toluenesulfonic acid is a commonly used acid catalyst in organic synthesis.
2. Use it to neutralize with sodium hydroxide to obtain sodium p-toluenesulfonate, and then react with phosphorus pentachloride to obtain p-toluenesulfonyl chloride. The latter is used in nucleophilic substitution reactions and also as a protective group for alcoholic hydroxyl groups.
3. P-toluenesulfonic acid and dehydrating agent phosphorus pentoxide can be mixed and heated to generate p-toluenesulfonic anhydride.
4. Catalyze the esterification and transesterification of dihydropyran protecting groups and carboxylic acids on alcohols.
5. Generate acetals from aldehydes.
6. As a catalyst for the hydrolysis of proteins and glycoproteins.
7. Catalysis can be used to synthesize the Biginelli reaction of dihydropyrimidine and metal nitrate regioselectively carry out the nitration reaction at the ortho position of the phenolic hydroxyl group in phenol and substituted phenol.
