Sodium sulfate is a white crystalline powder. It has a bitter and salty taste and no odor. The melting point is approximately 800℃. It is hygroscopic and can easily absorb three molecules of water in moist air. It is soluble in water and glycerol. The aqueous solution is neutral.
It is mainly used as a filler for manufacturing powdered household laundry detergents. It is applied in the sulfate pulping method of pulp manufacturing and in the production of highly alkaline sulfides. Among them, in the papermaking industry, mirabilite plays an important role due to its unique chemical properties and diverse application advantages.
