The appearance of sodium nitrite is white or slightly yellowish crystals, with a relative molecular mass of 68.99 and a specific gravity of 2.168. Odorless, slightly salty, deliquescent, easily soluble in water, melting point 271°C, decomposition temperature 320°C, oxidizing and reducing. It will slowly oxidize to sodium nitrate in the air, and it is easy to form diazonium compounds from amino groups at low temperatures.
