Ferric trichloride hexahydrate (FeCI36H2O) is the solid form or crystalline form of liquid ferric chloride. It is a brownish-yellow block solid and has all the properties and uses of ferric chloride.
Ferric chloride hexahydrate is odorless, has astringent taste, has strong hygroscopicity, and is deliquescent. It can deliquesce into a reddish-brown liquid in the air. Easily soluble in water, the aqueous solution is strongly acidic and can coagulate protein. Easily soluble in ethanol, liquid sulfur dioxide, ethylamine, aniline, etc., insoluble in glycerin, phosphorus trichloride, etc.
