Ferric chloride hexahydrate is ferric chloride containing six crystal water molecules. The appearance of ferric chloride hexahydrate is yellow-brown crystal or massive solid, colorless and odorless. Its melting point is 37°C, and it can be dissolved in water, ethanol, and ether. The solution is acidic.
It is deliquescence, and can be deliquescence into reddish brown liquid in the air. The solubility in 100g of water at 0°C is 246g, and the solubility in warm water is greater. When placed in moist air or exposed to light, it decomposes to generate hydrogen chloride, and its aqueous solution turns yellow-brown due to hydrolysis.
