Sodium carbonate is a white odorless powder or particle at room temperature. It has water absorption property and gradually absorbs 1mol / L water in the exposed air (about = 15%). Soluble in water and glycerin. It is slightly soluble in anhydrous ethanol and difficult to dissolve in propanol. The solution is alkaline and can make phenolphthalein red.

Sodium carbonate is an important organic chemical raw material, mainly used in the production of flat glass, glass products and ceramic glaze. It is also widely used in domestic washing, acid neutralization and food processing.
