Sodium bicarbonate, with the molecular formula NaHCO₃, is an inorganic compound. It is a white powder or fine crystal, odorless, salty in taste, readily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and its aqueous solution is slightly alkaline. It decomposes easily when heated. It decomposes slowly in moist air, generating carbon dioxide. It begins to decompose at about 50℃ and is completely decomposed when heated to 270℃. It decomposes strongly when exposed to acid, generating carbon dioxide. Sodium bicarbonate is widely used in industrial fields such as chemical engineering, medicine, food, light industry, and textile, as well as in People's Daily lives, and holds an important position in the national economy.

1.Sodium bicarbonate can be used as an analytical reagent and also in inorganic synthesis.
2.Sodium bicarbonate can be used in the production of acid-base fire extinguishers and foam fire extinguishers. In the rubber industry, sodium bicarbonate can be used in the production of rubber and sponge.
3. In the dyeing and printing industry, sodium bicarbonate can be used as a color-fixing agent for dyeing and printing, an acid-base buffer, and a post-treatment agent for fabric dyeing and finishing. Adding baking soda during dyeing can prevent the yarn from developing color streaks and can also be used as a detergent for wool.
4. In food processing, sodium bicarbonate is one of the most widely used leavening agents, used in the production of biscuits, bread, etc.
5. It can be used as a color protector for fruits and vegetables in vegetable processing. Adding about 0.1% to 0.2% sodium bicarbonate when washing fruits and vegetables can stabilize the green color.
6.Sodium bicarbonate can be used for agricultural seed soaking and can also make up for the insufficiency of lysine content in feed. Dissolving sodium bicarbonate in a small amount of clear water or mixing it into concentrate and feeding it to cattle (with an appropriate addition) can promote the growth of cattle and significantly increase the milk production of dairy cows.
