4-Toluene Sulfonic Acid, Ptsa, P-Toluenesulfonic Acid 99% As Intermediates For Medicines
P-toluenesulfonic acid (chemical formula: p-CH3C6H4SO3H, also written as TsOH) is a non-oxidizing strong organic acid, which is one million times more acidic than benzoic acid. White needle-like or powder crystals, easily deliquescent, soluble in water, alcohol and other polar solvents. It will dehydrate and carbonize paper, wood, etc. Industrially, p-toluenesulfonic acid is produced by sulfonating toluene with concentrated sulfuric acid. The prepared p-toluenesulfonic acid often contains impurities of benzenesulfonic acid and sulfuric acid. The pure product can be obtained by recrystallization of the impure sample in concentrated hydrochloric acid and azeotropic drying.
