Paraformaldehyde: white powdery solid, flammable solid with pungent odor (formaldehyde smell). It is a linear polymer of formaldehyde. It has no fixed melting point. It decomposes when heated and releases a large amount of toxic formaldehyde gas. The melting point ranges from 120 to 170°C. The flash point is 70℃, the ignition temperature is 300℃, and the explosion limit is 7.0-73.0%. It is easily soluble in water and releases formaldehyde, slowly dissolves in cold water, and can be dissolved in sodium hydroxide and carbonate solutions. Insoluble in alcohol and aldehydes.
