Hexamine/ Urotropine is colorless or white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless, and bitter after the first sweet taste. It absorbs water in the air and is deliquescent. The relative density is 1.27. It will sublime when heated to 260-263℃. It is easily soluble in water. The aqueous solution is alkaline, soluble in alcohol, insoluble in gasoline and acetone, and slightly soluble in ether. It reacts with dilute nitric acid and acetic acid to form salt, and reacts with dilute sulfuric acid to release formaldehyde. There is a danger of burning in case of open flames, and toxic nitrogen oxide fumes will be liberated when heated. Mixed with oxidants can form explosive mixtures. Slightly corrosive in contact with skin.

1. Used for resin, curing agent, rubber and plastic vulcanization accelerator (accelerator H), textile preshrunk agent.
2. Used for Medicinal, internal and meet acid urine after decomposition of formaldehyde and sterilization effect, used for mild urinary tract infections.
3. Used to treat tinea, stop sweat, treat osmidrosis. Mixed with sodium hydrate and phenol, used for gas mask as phosgene absorption agent.
