The solid ferric chloride adopts the chlorination method, the eutectic mixture reaction method and the titanium tetrachloride by-product method; the liquid product adopts the hydrochloric acid method and the one-step chlorination method.
1. Chlorination method
Using scrap iron and chlorine as raw materials, they react in a vertical reactor. The ferric chloride vapor and tail gas produced are discharged from the top of the furnace and enter the trap to be condensed into solid crystals, which is the finished product. The tail gas contains a small amount of unreacted free ferric chloride. The ferrous chloride solution is used to absorb the chlorine, and the ferric chloride solution is obtained as a by-product. During the production operation, the ferric chloride vapor will generate heat strongly after contacting the moisture in the air and emit hydrochloric acid gas, so the pipelines and equipment should be well sealed. The entire system operates under negative pressure.
2. Eutectic mixture reaction method (melting method)
In a reactor with an acid-resistant lining, iron filings and dry chlorine are reacted in a eutectic mixture of ferrous chloride and potassium chloride or sodium chloride (for example, 70% FeCl3 and 30% KCl). It becomes ferric chloride, and the sublimation is collected in the condensation chamber. The ferric chloride produced by this method has high purity.
3. Synthesis method of ferric chloride solution
The iron filings are dissolved in hydrochloric acid to generate ferrous chloride first, and then lead to the oxidation of chlorine to ferric chloride.
Cooling the concentrated ferric chloride solution will produce ferric chloride hexahydrate crystals.
4. Double decomposition method
Iron oxide and hydrochloric acid are used to crystallize to obtain ferric chloride products.
