Equipment Maintenance of Soda Ash
Soda ash production is an exothermic reaction. Maintenance is usually scheduled in summer or during the Spring Festival when there are many shutdowns in the downstream and the demand is not strong. The maintenance cost varies greatly depending on the focus of each maintenance (such as replacing equipment or accessories, repairing pipelines or supporting devices, etc.), ranging from tens of thousands to tens of millions.
The ammonia-alkali process production equipment is an integrated set of equipment. A complete shutdown and major overhaul of the equipment requires the entire cycle equipment to be shut down for maintenance and upkeep, and to debug and rectify various issues, which usually takes 7 to 10 days. Usually, each ammonia-alkali enterprise will carry out such a large-scale and planned shutdown once every 1 to 2 years.
The production equipment of the combined soda process belongs to the two-cycle system equipment. When the equipment is completely shut down for major maintenance, both cycle system equipment need to be shut down for servicing and maintenance, and various problems need to be debugged and repaired. It usually takes 10 to 20 days. When an enterprise restarts, it needs to start up the first cycle system equipment for ammonia synthesis and the second cycle system equipment for soda ash production in sequence. Therefore, compared with the ammonia-soda method, the maintenance of the combined soda method takes longer. Usually, each combined alkali enterprise will carry out a large-scale and planned shutdown once a year.
The production process of natural soda ash is simple. The equipment maintenance of soda ash enterprises needs to be carried out once a year, and each time it takes about 10 days.
Although equipment maintenance may lead to a temporary contraction in production and a price rebound, the release of new natural soda production capacity, the continuous weakness in demand and the high inventory pressure still keep the industry as a whole in a situation of strong supply and weak demand. The future focus should be on the commissioning progress of new capacity and the boost to demand from the resumption of photovoltaic glass production.
