Analysis of Calcium Chloride Industry Policies in 2025:

Calcium chloride Industry Standards Enhance Product Quality and Safety

China Report Hall News: In recent years, the development of the calcium chloride industry has been jointly influenced by national policies, environmental protection regulations and market demands. At the policy level, the Chinese government has issued a series of guiding documents, aiming to regulate industry production, promote technological innovation and drive green and sustainable development. The following is the policy analysis of the calcium chloride industry in 2025.

To ensure the safety and quality controllability of its production, storage, transportation and use, a series of industry standards and norms have been formulated at home and abroad. These standards mainly cover aspects such as the purity, impurity content, physical and chemical properties, production process, and packaging labels of calcium chloride. The "Global and China Calcium Chloride Industry Market Status Research and Development Prospect Analysis Report 2025-2030" points out that China's calcium chloride production capacity will continue to reach new heights, with an additional capacity of 2.761 million tons and a capacity growth rate of 12.2%.

The "Green Development Action Plan for the Petrochemical and Chemical Industry" jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology requires calcium chloride producers to enhance the comprehensive utilization of resources, reduce by-product emissions, and gradually phase out backward production capacity. These policies have set a clear direction for the transformation and upgrading of the industry, and at the same time, they have also put forward higher requirements for the environmental compliance of enterprises. Now, let's analyze the calcium chloride industry policies for 2025 from two major aspects.

Policy measures for the calcium chloride industry

China has formulated regulations such as the "National Standard for Industrial Calcium Chloride", which have put forward clear requirements for the appearance, chemical composition, physical properties, packaging and transportation of calcium chloride. Meanwhile, the state implements a production licensing system for calcium chloride production. Food-grade products need to obtain a food production license, while industrial-purpose products need to apply for relevant production licenses based on their specific uses. These policies have effectively regulated the market order, ensured product quality and safety, and laid a foundation for the healthy development of the industry.

The 14th Five-Year Plan proposes to promote the development of the chemical industry towards high-end and refined directions. As an important industrial raw material, the research and development of high value-added products of calcium chloride (such as food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade calcium chloride) will receive policy preferences. Furthermore, under the "dual carbon" goals, the industry needs to explore low-carbon production processes, such as using industrial waste like calcium carbide slag to produce calcium chloride, in order to achieve resource recycling. The Ministry of Commerce and other departments also encourage enterprises to participate in the formulation of international standards to enhance the global competitiveness of China's calcium chloride products.

With the enhancement of global environmental awareness, the calcium chloride industry is facing stricter environmental protection requirements. Countries have successively introduced environmental protection standards such as RoHS, REACH and DMF-free, promoting enterprises to adopt more environmentally friendly raw materials and production processes. Against this backdrop, enterprises are actively exploring sustainable development paths, such as recycling calcium chloride from used desiccants and developing degradable desiccant packaging materials. Some enterprises have achieved a win-win situation of economic benefits and environmental protection by optimizing their production processes to reduce energy consumption. These policies not only promote technological innovation in the industry, but also prompt enterprises to take the initiative to assume social responsibilities, injecting new impetus into the long-term development of the industry.

Industry standards and norms for calcium chloride

The standard requires that industrial calcium chloride should appear as a white, grayish-white or slightly colored powder, flake, granular or block solid, or a colorless transparent to slightly turbid liquid. Technical indicators cover calcium chloride content (on a dry basis), magnesium and alkali metal chloride content, water-insoluble matter content, acidity (pH value 7.5-10.5), sulfate content, etc. Furthermore, the standard also puts forward stricter requirements for food-grade and medical-grade calcium chloride. For example, food-grade calcium chloride needs to comply with the GB 1886.45-2016 standard and control the content of heavy metals (lead ≤2mg/kg, arsenic ≤1mg/kg, mercury ≤0.1mg/kg). The pharmaceutical grade must meet the standards of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia to ensure that the bacterial endotoxin test is qualified.

During transportation and storage, calcium chloride should be packaged in accordance with the requirements of "GB/T 191-2008 Packaging, Storage and Transportation Illustration and Marking", ensuring sealing and moisture-proofing, and avoiding contact with strong acids, strong alkalis or easily oxidized substances. Transport vehicles should be equipped with rain and moisture-proof facilities and comply with the relevant regulations on the transportation of dangerous chemicals. When storing, calcium chloride should be kept in a dry and well-ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat sources. At the same time, the integrity of the packaging should be checked regularly to prevent moisture absorption and caking. In the international market, calcium chloride products also need to comply with standards such as the FCC of the United States and the E509 food additive standards of the European Union to meet the demands of global trade. The continuous improvement of industry standards not only enhances the quality and safety of calcium chloride products but also provides an important basis for the standardized development of the industry.

The packaging and transportation of calcium chloride must comply with safety and environmental protection requirements. Solid products are usually packaged in a double-layer manner with inner plastic and outer woven fabric, with a net weight of 25kg per bag or as per customer requirements. Liquid products are transported in polyethylene drums or tank trucks. Products with a concentration of ≥30% must be marked with an "anti-freezing" label. The storage environment should be cool and dry, with a relative humidity of no more than 65%. It must not be stored together with alkaline substances. During transportation, it is necessary to prevent the packaging from being damaged. For liquid products, insulation measures should be taken during winter transportation. In addition, the standard also requires that samples of each batch of products be retained for at least half a year, and the packaging should be marked with information such as the production date, batch number, and implemented standard to facilitate traceability and quality control.

Overall, the policy not only sets hard constraints for the green transformation of the industry but also provides opportunities for technological upgrading and market expansion. Enterprises need to respond proactively and win development space through compliance and innovation. In the future, with the advancement of technology and the increase in industry demands, the industry standards for calcium chloride will be further improved, promoting the development of the industry towards high efficiency, greenness and safety.
